This
vacant lot at 107 SW Barnard St. in Historic Glen Rose Texas,
lies between two century old buildings and has been a drainage
canal for the overflow from "Gator Pond" across town,
and runoff from city gutters, into the Paluxy river.
In
1990, the Mayor decided to have it cleaned up and used as the
city's first sanctuary for local birds and other wildlife.
Future
additions to the sanctuary will be an ADA accessible elevated
observation deck, as now the public's primary vantage point is
from the sidewalk. The purpose of the elevated deck is for easy
viewing of the entire sanctuary area to witness its' lushness
and beauty.
